In Ultimate Team, just like in the real world of football, there are some tough moments, especially when you step into Division Rivals or FUT Champions grounds. There, others are just waiting to tear your defense to shreds and grab the rewards for themselves. To prevent this, you need to know the unwritten rules that EA won't show you in their tutorial boxes. What are these rules? What to beware of at all costs? And what should you do to prevent rookie mistakes? Below, we describe common mistakes that separate the best from the worst: study them all, and you'll be well on your way to becoming a great player!

 

GETTING FOOLED BY PACKS

Apart from gameplay itself, one of the most popular factors within the Ultimate Team mode are packs. Their significance grows, especially when a new TOTW or given promo comes around. The packs provide you with a chance to get the best player cards and useful consumables. When opening a pack, there is always a thrill of packing Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo or other stars, but the chances of that happening are very slim. That is why you should always get familiar with the pack probabilities before opening, as the best packs aren't cheap. And the last thing you want is to spend a fortune and end up with useless content. Let's put it into perspective and give you an example: opening a 125k pack during FUT Birthday provided 3% chance of packing a player rated 90 or higher, while there was 97% chance of getting someone that's not worth of your in-game currency. So in that case you just might be better off saving that 125k and spend it on a given player from the transfer market, where you know exactly what you buy.

 

BUYING FIFA POINTS

EA is known for their "specific monetization policy." Which is why, as a FUT player, you shouldn't go for FIFA Points offers or at least not often, as these points will allow you to either buy packs or play in the Draft mode. Whichever way you look at it, it's not worth the candle. We mentioned the profitability of packs above, and having FIFA Points, you can only rely on luck to open packs. There are many stories of players floating around social media and web, who had to buy massive amounts of points to finally pack something worthwhile. Of course, no one can forbid the rich, but approaching the matter logically, it is better to buy a card like Mbappe for coins, where there is a fixed price, and you know what you are buying. It's surely better than trying to pack the French via FIFA Points with very slim chances of getting his card. AVOIDING SQUAD BUILDING CHALLENGES

A huge mistake that inexperienced players tend to make, is that they skip what's unknown, including Squad Building Challenges. More often than not, the rewards that you can get out of SBC's are decent. Each new week brings a set of Marque Matchup SBC. All rewards are tradable, which means profit in the form of coins and better start in early game. After you complete such SBC, you may never end up with a deficit (unless you use expensive cards to complete it). FIXING ONE POSITION AND NEGLECTING THE REST

Make sure that you do not sell half of your squad only to get one kick ass card. Say that all you have at a given moment is a million coins, and you have eyed a cool, but expensive player. To get him, you have to split your coins evenly. Buying him, while he's worth 900K, and then settling for the remaining 100K to fill in the blanks in your team will get you nowhere. Instead, you should aim to buy all the cards with similar qualities, so that the squad you play with feels well-balanced. Bear in mind that each position in your team matters, as defense is just as crucial as attack.

 

IGNORING CHEMISTRY STYLES

Another mistake that many FUT players make is not applying the right chemistry styles, or not applying them at all to the players. Such consumables may boost specific statistics of your cards and make them better performance wise on the pitch. Need more pace for your defender to protect your goalkeeper? Go for a chemistry style. Looking to make your striker more efficient when it comes to swirling the ball? Go for a chemistry style. Don't know which chemistry to choose for a given player? Then check out FUTBIN and see what the community suggests. For example, take a look at Vinicius Junior page, and in the box on the right-hand side, try to apply to him a Hunter chemistry style. Now try to apply a Deadeye and notice what stats changed on the card. In that case, Hunter style (which boosts pace and shooting) is pointless, since Vini already has his pace maxed out. That's why a better choice will be Deadeye with more benefits to the card (which boosts shooting and passing). Your team will perform much better with the right chemistry styles applied. If your opponent won't do the homework with chem styles, while you do, then that will give you an edge over him.   

 

AVOIDING SQUAD BATTLES

You may think this offline mode is not worth your time at all. In reality, you would be dead wrong... Squad Battles (especially at the start of FUT campaign) is actually a convenient way to constantly earn rewards and amass your coin piles. On top of that, you can adjust the difficulty, which allows you to play accordingly to your skill level and always win something. Of course the higher the difficulty, the better the rewards, but don't get fixated on it. If you're not a FIFA master already, then with time you will get there. If you are struggling at higher levels, it's better to just lower it. At the end of the day, you get more points for winning at lower levels than losing at the higher ones. So, adjust the difficulty level to suit you and don't overlook this mode. Squad Battles mode is also a great starting point before you jump straight into PvP clashes in Division Rivals or FUT Champions.
