FC 27 on PS4, Xbox One and Switch 2: upgrade and crossplay
What platforms is FC 27 coming out on?
FC 27 launches on seven platforms simultaneously. The game is set for a worldwide release on 25 September 2026 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
One thing worth flagging right away: not every platform gets the same feature set. FC 27 will be available on PC (via Steam, EA App, and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Amazon Luna.
Keep in mind that PC spans three storefronts (EA App, Steam, Epic), but from an online matchmaking standpoint it counts as a single platform. If you play on Steam, you'll still need an EA account and the EA App.
How does the PS4/Xbox One version differ from PS5/Xbox Series X
The biggest difference is access to The Grounds and the new engine. The Grounds will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, so any content tied to The Grounds will only be accessible on supported platforms.
Concretely, this means the new open-world mode. The mode is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. On PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch, you simply won't be able to launch it.
One interesting technical note on Switch 2: unlike the old-gen consoles, the Switch 2 version runs on the same engine as PS5/Xbox Series/PC, while PS4 still runs on the older engine from the FIFA era. That's why Switch 2 gets The Grounds - but it runs into a different limitation: no crossplay (more on that in a moment).
How does the free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade work in FC 27?
The free cross-gen upgrade is handled by Dual Entitlement. FC 27 includes Dual Entitlement, which lets you upgrade your copy of FC 27 from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S at no additional cost.
This only works within the same console family. The Dual Entitlement upgrade is only available when moving from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. Buying an Xbox One copy won't get you a PS5 version - it has to be the same family.
Good news: Dual Entitlement isn't a pre-order exclusive. Dual Entitlement is included with eligible FC 27 Standard, Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Editions on PlayStation and Xbox, available through both digital and physical purchases, and is not limited to pre-orders. [KROKI] How to use the free upgrade - step by step: - Buy FC 27 and start playing on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. - Get a new console from the same family (PS5 or Xbox Series X|S). - Sign in with the same EA account on your new console. - Find FC 27 in your library and download the upgraded version from the platform's digital store. [/KROKI]
If you own a physical copy of FC 27, you'll need a console with a disc drive to use the upgrade. If you own a physical copy of FC 27 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you'll need a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S console with a disc drive to take advantage of Dual Entitlement. Digital copies have no such requirement.
Importantly for FUT players: your club carries over after the upgrade. All progress and content acquired in FC 27 Ultimate Team - including players, items, Coins, FC Points, match records and leaderboard rankings - transfers between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, when you use the same EA account across both versions.
Your FUT progress is safe, but other modes aren't. Ultimate Team progress transfers within the same console family, but Career Mode, Seasons and most other modes do not. So if you have an active Career save on PS4, you'll be starting it from scratch on PS5.
Can I play on PS4 against someone on PS5 in FC 27? Cross-gen crossplay
No - a PS5 player can't go head-to-head directly with a PS4 player. Crossplay is restricted to the same platform generation: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC form one group, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One form another.
The key detail: what matters is which version of the game you're running, not the physical console under your TV. On PlayStation and Xbox, who you're matched with depends on which version of FC 27 you launch, not simply which box is sitting next to your TV. Since Dual Entitlement gives you both versions, you can deliberately drop into the old-gen pool.
In practice, it works like this: a player on PS5 running the PS5 version won't be matched directly with someone running the PS4 version - one of them would need to launch the same generation of the game. So if you want to play with a friend who stayed on PS4, just boot up the PS4 version on your PS5.
Nintendo is a separate story. Crossplay is not supported on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 - players on those platforms can only play online with other users of the same Nintendo system. That's why Switch 2, despite its new engine and The Grounds access, still plays in its own sandbox.
Crossplay also has implications for the Transfer Market. Ultimate Team uses a shared Transfer Market: PlayStation and Xbox players share the same market, while PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 each have their own separate markets. For sniping cards, this is a big deal - the larger, shared console market means more listings and more stable prices.
Why won't the free FC 27 Lite be coming to Nintendo?
FC 27 Lite is the free version of the game - but it deliberately skips Nintendo platforms. FC 27 Lite will be available on 25 September 2026 at 16:00 UTC on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, EA App, Steam and Epic Games Store. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are nowhere on that list.
Interestingly, the paid FC 27 editions do exist on Nintendo. FC 27 Ultimate Edition and Standard Edition will be available on EA App, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and Epic Games Store. What's missing is the free Lite version and the Ultimate Plus Edition - which also skips Nintendo platforms entirely.
If you're on Switch and want to try FC 27 for free, the usual 10-hour EA Play trial won't help you on that platform either - your real options are picking up the Standard or Ultimate Edition.
Which version of FC 27 is best for FUT?
For serious Ultimate Team play, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC are the way to go - they give you the full gameplay experience, The Grounds, and crossplay all in one group. If you're sticking with PS4 or Xbox One, you can still play FUT, just without The Grounds and the latest gameplay improvements.
From a Transfer Market perspective, it's pretty straightforward: PlayStation and Xbox consoles share a single Transfer Market, so whether you're on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you're buying and selling in the same card pool. PC and Switch have separate markets, so prices there can differ quite a bit.
If you're planning to move from PS4 to PS5 during the season, buy the version you'll start on from day one - Dual Entitlement will give you both copies and carry over your FUT club. Don't wait until launch day or until you get a new console to start building your squad. Right after the Web App opens, it usually pays off to pick up meta players early, because once the game drops, their prices tend to spike. Anyone already sitting on Coins should be investing in squads, not leaving them in the vault.
Most common questions about FC 27 platforms
Conclusion
FC 27 launches 25 September 2026 on seven platforms, but your hardware genuinely shapes what your experience looks like. PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 get the new engine and The Grounds, while PS4, Xbox One and the original Switch play a feature-limited version.
If you're switching consoles mid-season, Dual Entitlement will carry your FUT club across for free within the same family (PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S). Crossplay only connects players within the same generation, what matters is which version you launch, and Nintendo stays completely outside crossplay and won't get a free Lite version at all.
Whatever platform you're on, the key to a strong FUT start is building your squad quickly. Right after the Web App opens, snap up meta players before prices shoot up post-launch.
